The Difference Between Electric Chain Hoist and Electric Wire Rope Hoist

The wire rope hoist is a small lifting equipment. It has the advantages of compact structure, light weight, small size, strong parts versatility, and easy operation. Electric wire rope hoist can be installed alone on the I-beam, or it can be installed on electric or manual single-girder, double-girder, cantilever, gantry and other cranes.

In the production of electric hoists, there are two main suspension methods used – steel wire and chain. Steel wires and chains both rely on lifting hooks to hang heavy objects. Let’s analyze their respective advantages and disadvantages.

Steel wire is a commonly used suspension method for electric hoists, and is mainly made of twisted iron wire. The advantages of the wire rope hoist are high tensile strength, not easy to deform, good corrosion resistance, and long service life; but the disadvantage is that electric wire rope hoist is greatly affected by the ambient temperature. The electric wire rope hoist with trolley easily becomes hard and brittle in summer and soft or loose in winter, and requires frequent maintenance and inspection.

Chain is another commonly used electric hoist suspension method, mainly made of alloy steel. The advantages of the chain is that it is stronger, not easy to break, and is more suitable for heavy loads and long-term applications; but the disadvantages are also very obvious. Its service life is shorter than that of steel wire, and it requires frequent inspection and maintenance during use, otherwise the chain may appear loose situation.

In actual selection, different choices should be made according to different occasions and specific work needs. If heavy-load work is required for a long time, it is more appropriate to use the chain, which can ensure the safety, stable lifting and placement of the lifting object; and if it is a light-load or short-term work, choosing the wire rope hoist can better meet the needs.

In general, the selection of electric hoist should be based on the actual working environment and needs. Electric wire rope hoist is more economical and can meet certain work needs, while chain is suitable for occasions that require heavy loads and long working hours. During the selection process, attention needs to be paid to inspection and maintenance to ensure safe and stable operation.
